Not Solving a Problem, Just Loving Our Neighbor
What are we doing to love our neighbors?
In response to Gods instruction that we are to love our neighbor, MAN Tucson Ministries provides simple meals and socks to the homeless. Jesus tells us to feed the poor, give drink to the thirsty, and clothe the naked. Providing very basic needs, the first being love and dignity followed by something to eat and a clean pair of socks.
What food do you provide and how often?
We serve a variety of large muffins, oranges, bananas, apple and orange juice, fruit snacks, snack crackers, and water on Sunday mornings at Santa Rita Park. This allows MAN Tucson Ministries to serve our homeless community in compliance with the guidelines of the Pima County Health Department Food Code.
Why do you give socks to the homeless?
A homeless person getting clothing from a charitable organization may get just about everything they need, except socks. Where people contribute old clothing items to organizations providing assistance to the homeless, socks are hardly ever included. When people have old socks they typically just throw them away because they are worn out and have holes.
The American Podiatric Medical Association estimates more than 75 percent of Americans have foot pain, with infections four times more frequent in homeless people, who are mostly affected by fungus that and can lead to more serious health problems.
What kind of socks do you provide and how often?
Plain white crew socks are the best, but any sock style will fill the need as long as they are mostly white. It is our vision to provide socks to the homeless the second and fourth (or last) Sunday of each month.
How can I contribute?
If you are willing to donate time for outreach prep or delivery, that would be awesome. Send us an email
and we'll work out the details. If you are willing to donate food/prep/service items, that would be equally as awesome. Be aware that food items may change from week to week, so send us an email if you are planning to donate food so we can let you know what we can use.
We are always collecting contributions of new white socks. For more information, visit our Sock Drive page.
Your financial support is also welcome and appreciated. Donations can be made here.
